New African Head Charge album coming up
Three tracks from the forthcoming African Head Charge album “Voodoo Of The Godsent”. The release is announced for end of march and it will be the first release to mark legendary dub label On-U Sound’s 30th anniversary.
Some Little Axe
In this video, Skip McDonald explains the story behind the new Little Axe album, Bought For A Dollar, Sold For A Dime. The album will be out on June 6 on Real World Records.
Little Axe is the blues outfit of this guitarist Skip McDonald. He played in the house band for pioneering rap label Sugar Hill, providing the music for some of the most seminal records of the era by Grandmaster Flash, Afrika Bambaata M.D.’s and others. From there he worked closely with Adrian Sherwood on many projects for the On-U Sound label, as well as spearheading the band Tackhead and working with Living Colour. Little Axe was a return to the blues he knew from his childhood, but with Little Axe taking the blues right into the 21th century.
… and this is how they sounded almost 15 years ago. Ride on.

Indigenous Resistance Dubcast
![]()
We discovered this one through Exile On Moan Street (a blog very much worth checking out). It’s a podcast called “IR 18.3 Atenco”. The “IR” being short for Indigenous Resistance, and Atenco being a classic indigenous land rights struggle in Mexico, you can already feel this one coming.
This issue 18.3 of the podcast combines the land struggles with autonomous resistance (“the land is not for sale”), the Zapatistas with Asian Dub Foundation and mixes it with loads of great music. What you get is a speech fragments, ideas flying back and forward in the digital domain and lots of dub and dubversive music.
A serious message and some wonderfull music. Nice one!
Download it from Dubreality’s Podcast where you can also find all the info you need (plus a playlist). And don’t forget: be reasonable, demand the impossible!

Adrian Sherwood: AHeadfullofNoise
Taken from the 38 Minutes site:
A few years back Adrian Sherwood and Doug Aubrey‘s worlds met and mixed somewhere in North London. A shared interest in noise, silence and a mutual hearing loss, caused by Bombs, Drum and Bass, led the Godfather of dub and Aubrey starting to talk about trying to make a film together. Aided by a few fellow conspirators from On-U-sounds world: Ghetto Priest, Doug Wimbish, Mark Stewart and a passing cat, they produced a short never seen video … until now.
The dubmaster and the filmmaker again met recently in Edinburgh and at Graham Fagan’s fantastic ‘I murder Hate‘ event in Stirling and there’s now rumour of a major film collaboration for the 30th anniversary of the seminal On-U Sound in 2011, which will form part of a dvd box set, a work for cinema and who knows even television?Enjoy!
For the true dubheads, there’s a great soundboard recording of the Sherwood show over at Demonoid. Wonderfull stuff, so be fast.
Independence Dub Day 2009
Dub Flash has some great videos online, taken on the Independence Dub Day 2009 festival in Wroclaw, Poland, 7th March 2009. Featuring Adrian Sherwood deejaying with Little Roy on the mic, Dubblestandart, Brain Damage, Aba Shanti and the All Sunrises Soundsystem from Poland. The videos are slow loaders, but they show some great footage so they’re surely worth the waiting. Nice work.
Perry meets Lennon mashup
A great mashup of Max Romeo’s “Chase The Devil” (produced by Lee Perry) & The Beatles’ “A Day In The Life”, recently uploaded on Adrian Sherwood’s myspace page with some pictures to match. Somebody played around with some software, added some pictures and put the result on Youtube. Wondering how long it’s going to stay up, so listen fast.
More dubs and some other great tunes on Adrian Sherwood’s myspace page. He has recently released Lee Perry’s “The Mighty Upsetter” on the On-U Sound Label. One of the best Perry albums in years and with a dub companion on the way.
