Kode9 mix for Fact magazine

Kode9 did a special mix for Fact magazine. Featuring mostly ’94-’96 jungle. It’s only available for a very short period of time, so grab it while you can.

Over here.

While you’re enjoying the mix you can also read Martin Clark’s Pitchfork column and an interview he did with Kode9 for his Blackdown blog. The column ends with a nice quote: “The point is to create something fresh in the process of getting lost.”

RAW.Tempel: dub in Berlin

Musik Line has a very interesting interview with Raimund Reintjes of Berlin’s RAW.Tempel. In a defunct factory complex in Friedrichshain there’s room for artistic and musical events, for political, ecological and social activities and for the RAW.Tempel, which over the last decade has secured a reputation as one of the centres of gravity of the Berlin dub scene.

Reintjes talks about the history of the RAW.tempel, the evolution of dub in Berlin and the ever-present threat of gentrification, along with the influence of the netlabel scene, the ‘third wave of dubby ideas’ which has the city locked right now.

David Rodigan talking

For those of us that understand dutch (oh yes, they exist), there’s a splendid interview with famous radio and sound system dj David Rodigan over at reggae.be. Rodigan talks dub plates and dub step, ganja and rastafari, batty boys and gun talk, Jamaica and hiphop, Civalizee and Busy Signal and Sleng Teng and much much more. It’s an interesting read from beginning to end and we hope there’s going to be an english version available too. After all, the interview was done in english, wasn’t it?

Meanwhile here’s David Rodigan playing one of his favorite dubplates, Alton Ellis’ Rocksteady.

When things get muddy …

Episode 119 of XLR8R TV is an interview with label owner, dubstep producer and sonic philosopher Kode9. He talks city cross-pollination, U.K. Funky, the Hyperdub label and bureaucratic nightmares. And he thinks things get interesting when things get muddy. That’s a view we tend to share.
