Dub Power with Dziga

Fresh Poulp Records presents its last release of the year 2010. The honours go to Italy-based producer Dziga and his Dub Power ep. It’s his first digital release, containing five tunes mostly inna dubstep style with a few slices of electro dub. Nice one.

Dub Tentacles Volume Two
Fresh Poulp Records brings us the second volume of their Dub Tentacles compilation. Volume 1 was already a highly enjoyable trip trough the many worlds of dub, gathering 13 artists from different cultures.
For this Volume 2, Fresh Poulp stays a bit closer to home. The spotlights are on French Dub, with a few excursions to China, Greece, Belgium, Spain and Argentina. Still, with tunes ranging from reggae roots through electrodub to dubstep, there’s plenty of diversity and you will find dubs for every taste.
The quality of this second volume is high from start to end. So it’s hard to single out one or two stand-out tracks. But we surely were surprised by Volfoniq’s “Skango Dos”. Accompanied by Federico de Gennaro, Volfoniq delivers a spectacular fusion of tango and ska. “Skango Dos” grabs you from the very first seconds with a very atypical mix of styles. And they keep you listening untill the very last notes. These are drenched in reverb, which adds an extra dub feel to an already classy tune.
All in all a very nice compilation and once again a Fresh Poulp release that you can download for free.

Some more Zazen
Here’s a follow-up on a previous post where we mentioned the release of French dub producer Zazen‘s Self Control album. We’ve been playing this one quite a lot the last few weeks and if you would be curious why, then you can either get a little taste below. Or you can download the full album from the website of Fresh Poulp Records. Of course we strongly recommend the second option, but first have a listen and a look at the video below. The song is taken from Self Control, an album that is already on our list of top albums for 2010.
New releases on Fresh Poulp Records
2010 seems to have barely started and it’s already been a busy year for dub releases, free and non-free. Time to draw your attention to some albums very much worth listening to.
We’re starting things off with two albums on the excellent Fresh Poulp label. Self Control is the first album from French dub producer Zazen. The heavy bass lines and the steady rhythms provide a solid base for his original soundscapes. Strong and spiritual at the same time, this is a hypnotic album with not one weak track.
Then there’s Afirmativa from brasil-based singer Andreia Dacal. It’s the second time Fresh Poulp goes Brasil, after the Dubalizer album, and we surely hope they will do this more often in the future. Andreia Dacal brings an exciting mix of reggae, dub, rap and Brazilian music. Nice one!

Dub from Brasil
With this new release (they call it their next to last release for 2009), french netlabel Fresh Poulp Records has taken the road to Brasil. They ended up in São Paulo where they met up with producer Wagner Bagão aka Dubalizer.
To some of you this name perhaps might ring a bell, as earlier this year Dubalizer was already present on the Dub Tentacles compilation. Now he his first full album Sub Existencia. Fourteen tracks presenting the dub skills of Dubalizer and featuring many artists of the new brasilian scene. Fresh Poulp calls it “a tasty blend of roots reggae, dub, electronic music and latin flavours”. And that’s exactly what it is: a very fine global dub adventure.

Some more brasilian dub
And while we’re in Brasil, why not have another taste of brasilian dub. Cannabits is a recently created netlabel that wants to promote dub made in Brasil. Last year they published two Pac-o-Mania compilations (and a third one is said to be on the way). Grab a slice of brasilian dub and download both of them from the Cannabits site.
Bandulu Dub
Netlabel Fresh Poulp presents “Spiritual Evolution“, the third album of Bandulu Dub. Some of us might know these Portuguese dubmasters already from their contribution on the Dub Tentacles compilation, that was released on Fresh Poulp earlier this year. This tune “Long hair man” is also on Bandulu Dub’s new album, along with twelve new songs in the same vein: mixing positive vibes and musical collaborations with some very well crafted dubs. We get invited to a trip across Planet Dub, with collaborators from Norway, Japan, Germany, Cyprus, Montenegro, France, China and more. With a varied sound ranging from ethno to roots dub, “Spiritual Evolution” brings us almost an hour of sheer dub pleasure. As they put it theirselves: listen calmly and enjoy the trip!
Dub Tentacles
Since the early days of the label, Fresh Poulp wished to produce and release a 100% dub compilation. To be part of a planetary dub adventure by presenting an active and international (South America, North Africa, Middle-East, Asia, North America & Europe) display of this vast musical community.
This is now done with “Dub Tentacles“, the first release in what is announced as a long series of thematic compilations dedicated to dub music. Dub Tentacles is a true invitation to travel through music. With enjoyable stops in Brasil, South Korea or Turkey and unexpected calls in Israel, USA, Portugal and even Poland, you’ll finish the journey 11 stations later in France.

Dubosmium
For those who like their dub a little more exotic, there’s Dubosmium. This Moroccan music wizard surprised us last year with his Green Element EP, featuring 3 exclusives and 5 remixes.
The remixes range from electro-dub to dubstep, but the best part of the EP consists of the 3 exclusive dubs that take you on a fascinating voyage through north-african times and space. The Green Element EP is a foretaste of a full album that should be out around this time. We can hardly wait to hear more of this Casablanca dubber.
