Dub from Brasil
With this new release (they call it their next to last release for 2009), french netlabel Fresh Poulp Records has taken the road to Brasil. They ended up in São Paulo where they met up with producer Wagner Bagão aka Dubalizer.
To some of you this name perhaps might ring a bell, as earlier this year Dubalizer was already present on the Dub Tentacles compilation. Now he his first full album Sub Existencia. Fourteen tracks presenting the dub skills of Dubalizer and featuring many artists of the new brasilian scene. Fresh Poulp calls it “a tasty blend of roots reggae, dub, electronic music and latin flavours”. And that’s exactly what it is: a very fine global dub adventure.
Download it from the Fresh Poulp site.
Some more brasilian dub
And while we’re in Brasil, why not have another taste of brasilian dub. Cannabits is a recently created netlabel that wants to promote dub made in Brasil. Last year they published two Pac-o-Mania compilations (and a third one is said to be on the way). Grab a slice of brasilian dub and download both of them from the Cannabits site.

King Midas Sound
King Midas Sound is the new outfit of Kevin Martin (also known as The Bug and much much more) and Trinidad-born poet and singer Roger Robinson. The tune above is taken from the beautifull 2008 Hyperdub 12″ ‘Cool Out’/'One Ting’.
Their new album is due to be out end of this month. From what you can hear on their myspace page, it promises to be equally great. Mixing haunting dub with tearjerking ballads, this is 21st century lovers rock with a ghostly feel. Wordsound take power again with King Midas Sound.

Some more King Midas Sound: John Eden (uncarved.org) had a long talk with Martin and Robinson for FACT magazine, he aptly subtitled it The melancholy of hope. You can read pre-release reviews from Boomkat and BBC, the latter calling the album already a classic. And King Midas Sound have started a blog with some artwork, some linkage and Kevin Martin’s excellent sleevenotes for the classic “Macro Dub Infection” compilation.

Lee Perry On The Wire 1987
Streamola has delved up this tape of an On The Wire radio session with Lee Scratch Perry and Adrian Sherwood. The broadcast dates back from 1987, the year both dubmasters released the classic Time Boom X The Devil Dead album on On-U Sound. Listen to it or download it from the Streamola blog.

Over at Streamola you can also enjoy lots of streams that were originally webcast on the now defunct streamola.com in the period 1999–2001. There’s some truely great stuff over there.

Radio Mauritsstad
For those of you that understand dutch, belgian radio maker Zjakki Willems has produced a great series of radio documentaries on the musical traditions of Recife and Pernambuco. Brasil that is. With Radio Mauritsstad he digs into the roots of this Brasilian musical melting pot, also takes a closer look at the mangue beat (and much more) and finally ends with today’s vibrating music scene. With interviews and lots of exciting music.
For those of you that don’t understand dutch: never mind the talking, just listen to the music.
And by the way, glad to see that the sadly missed belgian radio show Cucamonga has turned itself into an equally fascinating blog.
